I read somewhere that sircam not only gets target email addresses from
the infected PC's Outlook address book but also from parsing web pages
left in that PCs browser cache, so your sender maybe read the PEN-L
archive or something like that.

Hey, I'm up to six! I had one guy with a broadband connection whose PC
sent me 478 emails, totaling just a hair under one hundred megabytes.
At his highest rate of transfer, I was getting a 200 - 300 KB email
about every minute and a half.

If you have a regular commercial pop3 mailbox and you get bombed like
that, you have to download email constantly or else your inbox at the
ISP fills to capacity and starts rejecting new legitimate messages; for
example I think I lost about a day's worth of PEN-L and lbo-talk
traffic. Man, that was bad; in my desperation I had to watch Fox News
on TV for my daily fix of news-n-opinion; I'm still dizzy.
