The recession arrives American unemployment rose to its highest level for five years in October, according to new data released on November 2nd. The figures came two days after confirmation that America’s GDP shrank in the third quarter of this year. How long and deep America’s recession will be is unclear, and the uncertainty created by the war on terrorism could yet make things worse.
