PEN-L:

After 9/11, the ombudsman for The Sacramento Bee wrote that the anti-war
letters to the editor outnumbered the pro-war letters. Think the editorial
letters page reflected this? Think again. The paper reprinted old pro-war
letters, he wrote.

Alas, not true. The Publisher of the local corporate
daily wrote an op-ed piece a couple of weeks ago
saying that "the US has never targeted civilians."
Maybe a half dozen people wrote in to set him
straight, but far more wrote to support him. I don't
think Chico is so very far off the grid in this
regard, and I bet if you take a poll of the first ten
people you run into out on the street, you'll find
that most of them woul agree that the US has not
targeted civilians.
