good comment, Michael, but this raises a question about how American neo-liberalism (here I assume the classic laissez faire usage) finds no need to organize labour into its own fasci -- a pillar or bundle of sticks, representing paterfamilias, or the roman clan system.
Unlike the corporatist state, neo-liberalism integratews with a form of Calvinism that preaches both individualism and predestination -- each individual is predistened to heaven or hell & god shows the results in the form of material well being. Therefore under such a model there is no need to organize labour, which is by its very (biblical) role as toilers, preordained to powerlessness in this life and damnation in both. If one breaks down any national class structure into geographic and ethnic subsystems an ethnographical pattern begins to emerge, even in the USA, and along with that pattern comes a variety in belief systems and associated values. -----Original Message----- From: Keaney Michael [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2001 1:12 AM To: PEN-L (E-mail) Subject: [PEN-L:20555] Fascism Jamil Brownson writes: Fascism is a particular type of corporate socialism, whereby the three fascii (pillars), capital, labour & government agree to run society according to a compact. ===== So this would be Cold War liberalism, would it not? See "Friendly Fascism: The New Face of Power in America" by Bertram Gross, 1980. And by "labour" I take it you mean trade union leaders. Michael K.
