Anti-Racist Action has called for mass opposition to the Jan. 10 deadline by the INS for nationals from 13 more countries to report, and had been planning a Jan 4 meeting to make further plans, but we are happy to participate in the call for a meeting January 2 at CARECEN, initiated by Not In Our Name, and hope people there will join in the effort to show up en masse at INS headquarters at the downtown LA federal building on 1-10 at 4 PM in an act of civil resistance to the INS call for interviews, fingerprinting and probable additional mass detentions of males over 16 from many countries. One of the nationalities targeted, the Somalis, are also under attack by racist politicians and neo-nazis in Lewiston Maine, where the mayor issued a provocative call for Somali families to stop bringing family members to the city, and the National Alliance and World Church of the Creator have called for a neo-nazi white supremacist rally to expel the Somalis on Jan. 11. ARA is participating in a regional counter-mobilization to oppose the nazis and defend the Somali community, and ARA chapters are planning mobilizations similar to ours in LA at INS facilities in Minneapolis, Columbus OH, New Jersey and elsewhere around the country on Jan. 10.
