====================

John Gulick is still having trouble subbing and asked me to forward:

Ian Murray posted the following article:

"U.S. Job Losses Blamed on China's Currency"

and asked:

any guesses as to how much of this is intra-firm trade ?

My reply:

This doesn't provide a precise answer to your question, but I read
somewhere
recently that around
75% of PRC's export growth (not total export value) could to be traced to
TNC's (not exclusively US
TNC's) importing parts, components, etc. from affiliates and joint
ventures
in China.

My suspicion, which I vented earlier, is that the Bush Admin (as opposed
to
bona fide protectionist politicians from the textile belt, etc.) doth
protest too much -- this is all a big show to keep China in
the dollar zone, which is really what matters in the end.

John Gulick

=====================

The figures I've found is about 70%; 40%, possibly more, of the US trade
deficit is intra-firm US based TNC's
