PUBLIC CITIZEN'S NEW WTO BOOK – COURSE ADOPTION INFORMATION

Why has the World Trade Organization (WTO) sparked passionate protests
all over the world? What are its implications for democracy and
development? Our new book, Whose Trade Organization? A Comprehensive
Guide to the WTO provides a comprehensive and meticulously footnoted
critique of the WTO that is intended to both educate the unaware and to
arm global justice activists with formidable expertise.

Written in accessible prose and backed up with thousands of footnotes,
Whose Trade Organization explains the lopsided agreements and secret
tribunals that are the WTO's stock in trade and provides a thorough
(300-page) analysis of the WTO's nearly ten-year record. It includes
chapters on the WTO's outcomes regarding the environment, rich and poor
countries' economies, jobs and livelihoods, food security and safety,
public health, human and labor rights and more (a full table of contents

is listed below/ enclosure). Each chapter features an overview that
explains how WTO rules and agreements affect the policy area in
question. This overview is followed by in-depth case studies that show
how these rules have been used to force changes in democratically
determined policies and to further skew outcomes in favor of global
commercial interests.

Whose Trade Organization is suitable for course adoption across a range
of classes dealing with global business, history, economics or politics,

including:

Globalization/ Political Economy
Politics of International Trade
Global Capitalism and International Trade
Globalization and Social Protest
Global Governance
Politics of Development

As we are sure you are aware, our perspective is dramatically
underrepresented in both the academic and media mainstreams. Some of
your students may have seen footage of protests in Seattle or Cancun but

few will have any detailed knowledge of what or why they were
protesting. If you are seeking to present present both sides of the
globalization debate as part of your class, there are few resources that

can offer as well-researched and detailed an understanding of the
anti-globalization perspective as Whose Trade Organization. If you
would like to consider the book for course adoption, please contact
