Best, Terry McDonough National University of Ireland, Galway Lectureships in Economics The Department of Economics wishes to invite applications for three (3) posts, two permanent, fulltime posts at Lecturer level (above or below the bar)(Posts I & II) and one Fixed Contract post (Post III), to expand the teaching capacity and to enhance the research output of the Department. The Department of Economics is one of the largest Departments in the University: it has two undergraduate programmes in Commerce and Arts, a postgraduate Diploma in Economics, two masters programmes, Economic Policy Evaluation and Planning and Rural Development, and a Ph.D. programme. It also has a number of part-time and distance learning programmes and provides service teaching to a wide range of programmes. The research output of the Department is quite eclectic but it has also consolidated its research activity into a number of areas of concentration, arising from HEA, EU and other funding : - Spatial Economics (Local, rural and regional) - Economics of Social Policy - Environmental Economics - Economic Theory and Methodology - Economics of Innovation and Technology (Please see Departments website for information on programmes, staff and research activity: www.economics.nuigalway.ie) It is expected that all appointees have good communication skills and are capable of teaching Micro or Macroeconomics courses to graduate level (in the case of Posts I & II) and have a demonstrated capacity to carry out independent research. A Ph.D. or equivalent is deemed to be an essential qualification for Post I&II. The following specialisms are attaching to the posts: Post 1: Monetary and Financial Economics Posts II & III: Specialist in one of the areas of research concentration noted above Although priority will be given to candidates with the specialisms noted above, the Department would welcome applications from highly qualified candidates in any area. While it is desirable that the successful candidates take up their appointments at the earliest possible date, the starting date and terms are negotiable with the Department Head (up to a maximum of one year from the date of appointment).
