McCain is show-boating, trying to look more important than he is. He's
only one senator and can go to DC _and_ participate in the debate.

you think there's a possibility of mass rebellion and thus mass
repression? I don't see that in the cards. The mass rebellion seems
pretty weak at this point, so there's little need for mass repression.
And how can the US government spare a brigade's combat team when
they're tied down in Iraq & Afghanistan?

the rich folks -- who have been benefiting royally from almost 30
years of GOP/DP rule --- have been grabbing real resources for ages.
They get rich financially and then buy yachts, McMansions, etc. They
have also been pushing (successfully in many cases) to privatize
government functions and resources, which allows them to get access to
them at bargain-basement prices. They've also encouraged corruption,
so that the gov't has let them benefit even when they're _renting_
government assets (as with the Interior Department's Mineral
Management scandal).
