Earlier the euro was strong but since the financial crisis it has weakened 
considerably compared to the US dollar.

Euro's Decline 

The euro has dropped more than 5 percent versus the dollar since Aug. 7, when 
Trichet said growth in the countries using the euro will be ``particularly 
weak'' through the third quarter.
