In addition to 240,000 jobs reported lost in October, earlier reports from August and September were revised upward by 179,000 jobs.This, of course, is only the beginning as retail sales plunged in October and more job cuts will inevitably follow. Considering the magnitude of the August and September revisions, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to assume that another 100,000 or so will eventually be added to the October number. That will make a jump of more than half a million unemployed in three months.
