As you know Social Democracy has no special organizational muscle in
the U.S. and therefore the rest of the world just went through thirty
years of a neo-liberal experiment. That is a major failing of the
premise of SD. Your question is a good question because it asks what
would be the alternative. The alternative in my view has to be
related to U.S. hegemonic power aspirations. Development of the whole
globe instead of the present hegemonic uneven development would be
required.
I think addressing the question requires a different process of
knowledge work than this list provides. The basic work requires
collaborative methods to stabilize and make useful a response.
