I have some sympathy for this argument. So I can understand why Obama does not and cannot speak like a Sharpton or a Jackson. I can also understand why he would be hyper-sensitive to accusations of "reverse-racism" - simply because such accusations may take on a life of their own if enough people believe it. ^^^^^ CB: Thank goodness for your sympathy It's even hard for non-colored _leftists_ , (who have a sincere opposition to racism above the American average) to get this; and I've been explaining it to several of them for twelve years ! (Could it be that they haven't paying attention to what I've been saying on racism for twelve years ? , naawww; smile) ^^^^^^ But at some point, he has got to - forgive the sexist expression - "man up". The situation calls for subtlety and nuance, not capitulation. ^^^^ CB: I disagree. Obama has played the subtleties just right. He fired Sherrod and now that the full story comes out, she gets lots of sympathy for the attack by Fox News. Obama had to play a heavy on this in order to get the positive result for raising mass white anti-racist consciousness we now have. Obama can never take the lead in anti-racism. That must be done by white activists, and in this case the other media exposing Fox News' demogogy. It has succeeded as Obama's press secretary had to apologize. Perfect. The real villain for most people ( hopefully) will be Fox News and the rightwing. ^^^^ It is not too late. The Sherrod case has produced a near-unanimous reaction against the racist right. ^^^^^ CB: Exactly. And now the O admin can and has apologized. Obama knows better than anybody how do race issues for the great mass of anti-racist tending white Americans ^^^^^^^ It is one thing to be a corporate tool. But, if Obama fails to take this opportunity, make amends for the shameful way this lady was treated and fight back in some meaningful way against the enemy, he is also an utterly contemptible coward. -raghu. ^^^^^^^ CB: He is a Black person with a brilliant understanding of the vast majority of white Americans' consciousness on racism, the level of the racism in their consciousness and their consciousness on racism, their consciousness about him as a _Black_ President. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
