I don't have time to look them up right now, but extensive statistics
back this.  The single best predictor of how well a student will do in
the classroom is the class and caste positions of the custodial
parents.  For  K-12 students who are poor, the single intervention
that is linked to the best improvement in performance is a school
breakfast program!   So it is not that a school can't do a better or
worse job even given a large number of students who are in a position
worse than prosperous working class. But class and caste position are
the single biggest correlation with results, no matter how measured.
