------------- Just to let the list know how bad our for-profit medical system is I recently found a generic substitute for my inhaler. Currently the price of this inhaler is 220.00 for a can of 200 doses which lasts for about 16 days. So that is out of pocket 440/mo. The generic only available outside the US is 29.00/can of 200 doses. That's nearly ten times the price between US and Canada. That difference in price is the difference between staying almost debt free and living on social security, instead of going into credit card debt at an alarming rate and ending up homeless. About the only comment I have about the post is to change psychopath to sociopath. The reasoning is that it is the society itself is under siege and being ripped apart by the sociopaths in business and public office. In the past, when my bosses got too much to bare, I looked for another job and left. At one point, I just left and demanded my 401k. The sob stalled for several months, then made a two part payment. It was the happiest 11/2 years of my life to be underemployed for less hours and interesting work in a bioscience lab and doing library research. My last job should have been a dream, working for a non-profit community organization devoted to the local disabled community. The job was supposed to be to design and build a community shop for wheelchair repair for low or no cost to the customers. I was perfect for this job. But then it turned out that the organization had no use for my skills because they didn't follow one, not one single piece of consultant advise I made, and they didn't even buy the necessary tools for such a shop. It was a complete and total rip-off of federal stimulus money. Counting me, they went through eight people in less than a year working on this project. In retrospect, the upper management got rid of everybody who knew anything about their jobs and could actually perform their jobs. They were systematically replaced by two people who didn't know the first thing about their jobs and could not actually perform the work. In the end, they selected a business manager who had no experience in business and even less in wheelchairs, and a young receptionist who was a nearly complete brain-wipe with emotional problems. Her previous job experience was working at McDonald's. When she was first selected to replace a temporary placement, an older black woman with many years of experience at Kaiser, B lasted about a month before she suddenly stopped showing up for work with a medical excuse that she was hospitalized, although what she was in the hospital for was unspecified. I was told the reason could not be disclosed. This was ridiculous. She was healthy as any eighteen year old. I suspected some sort of mental disorder brought on by stress. The only stress on the job was not knowing what she was doing and not being able to figure that out---while texting every couple of minutes with one of her friends. Well, nevermind. It was a year of living politically and it gave me deep insights into why places like New Orleans, Haiti, and Somalia are so fucked. The short story is the NGO mentality itself. The money goes in and nothing comes out or barely nothing. The people need to seize power and determine their own destiny. Until they do, they will get nothing. I know this is not news. It's an ageless call to revolution, total revolution. We must revolt to live or we will certainly die under half measures.
