------------ What I take Marx to mean is the transition between skilled craft labor, possessed by the worker, to machine that performs the labor, which the industrial worker merely operates. The best example is the industrialization of textiles, cloth. Prior to mechanical looms, the weaver had to know and be skilled at operating a loom. They also had to prepare thread on spindles. After mechanization, all the worker had to know was how to operate the machines.
