Let's try an analogy. During WW2 a writer might have 'criticized' Churchill or Roosevelt or Marshall, but would NOT have 'criticized' Tojo or Hitler or Count Ciano. One does NOT _criticize_ the enemy; one rather comments on tactics and strategies to mobilize resistance to The Enemy.
Now the reason that every so often I jump on posts with subject lines such as " Obama's Second Term Agenda: Cutting Social Security, Medicare, and/or Medicaid" is that from a socialist or anti-capitalist perspective, such a subject line is exactly parallel to the following hypothetical headline in a NYTimes in (say) July 1942: "Hitler plans to capture the Oil Fieleds of the Ukraine." No kidding! It doesn't really make any difference whatever what Obama plans to do in his second term: we _know_ (without further evidence) that he plans to do things that will strengthen capital and weaken the working class. That is a given. So what the hell is the point of proclaiming on a supposedly "left" list that Obama is going to attack social security. Gee whiz. Who wudda thunk it.
