of debt-financed government expenditures.
As I have pointed out, Robert C. Allen and Prasannan Parthasarathi give
very different interpretations of the Industrial Revolution recently
featured by Danny
Boyle at the Olympics. Allen would also argue that revolution was in fact
necessary
to overthrow Russian absolutism and make industrialization possible;
Acemoglu
and Robinson have only the harshest indictment of the Soviet revolution
though
they defend the necessity of the French Revolution and the Meiji
Restoration.
