That website asks who benefits: "Who stands to gain from unimpeded Russian arms shipments, unimpeded Syrian tank movements, and under-armed Free Syrian Army fighters?
The answer is blindingly obvious: the Assad regime." Well that much is blindingly obvious. What the writer does not ask is who benefits from Western, Turkish and Saudi intervention in Syria - the answer to that would be a little too obvious. http://mycatbirdseat.com/2012/06/hidden-us-israeli-military-agenda-break-syria-into-pieces/ http://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2012/05/15/us-saudi-arabia-plan-to-destroy-syria-report.html It then tries to belittle US and Saudi involvement on the spurious grounds that Nixon claimed " outside agitators, trained in Moscow, financed by China, backed by the full weight of world communism were infiltrating poor defenseless little South Viet Nam’s fledgling democracy, stirring up trouble, wreaking havoc, and attempting to pull the country behind the Iron Curtain." Well in substance that was true, Vietnam was the front line of the stuggle between the communist and capitalist blocks, and the revolution in Vietnam would not have succeeded without the aid and assistance provided by the socialist countries. The difference is that in the Syrian case the support that is coming in to the rebels is from US imperialism and from the most reactionary states in the region. So the question of who benefits is well posed. ________________________________________ From: [email protected] [[email protected]] On Behalf Of Louis Proyect [[email protected]] Sent: Monday, August 13, 2012 8:02 PM To: Activists and scholars in Marxist tradition; progressive Economics Subject: [Pen-l] “Hands Off Syria” and Other Slogans of Assad’s Counter-Revolution http://www.thenorthstar.info/?p=1827 _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l The University of Glasgow, charity number SC004401 _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
