Checking the financial data of some of the companies, I found the gross profit ran as high as 75%, but after expenses the income ran at 25% of sales, but the return on equity was about 40%. So, cutting out the profits would only reduce customer costs by 25% on average. What do people who write academic papers want from a publisher? As a reader, I want zero cost because I don't know if the papers will be accurate and useful. -- Ron
