Summers is an abusive character, but is there even a dime's worth of difference
between him and the other rumoured contender, Janet Yellen?

Even were one a conservative Republican and the other a liberal Democrat,
evolving economic and political conditions effectively decide policy direction
at the Fed and throughout the state apparatus.

But there are not even any ideological differences to muddy the waters here.
Yellen served under Greenspan at the Fed and was also, like Summers, a key
economic advisor in the Clinton administration. If Summers can be accused of
helping lay the groundwork for the deep US recession, so too can Yellen, which
suggest that the objections to Summers by Moveon and other US liberals are
entirely personal rather than political in nature.
