But isn't the basic point that the "use value" of a machine--what it's useful to the capitalist for--is precisely the production of surplus value, not the production of material objects (generally referred to as "widgets.")? "Moral wear and tear" tracks precisely the decline in the machine's usefulness *to the capitalist*.
