After careful study of unfolding events in Syria, and after interviews with some Syrian-American activists, and finally after a year’s worth of Skype conversations with a young man now living in Yemen who had defected from the Syrian military, I am as sure about which side to support in Syria as I was about Vietnam... LP ---------- OTOH, choosing sides, isn't the same as advocating for US military intervention, which I definitely do not. In the remaining late summer months of 2011, when the last of unarmed demonstrations in Syria were getting shot by the Syrian military with tank back-up, neither did they. It's hard to remember now, but western intervention was debated openly and rejected. This was more or less contemporary with the turn to urban guerilla warfare that followed. And soon enough there were calls for arming this or that group. In any event since when has bombing fixed anything? Has a grenade ever fixed an errant computer?
