Just around the time I sat down to work on this item, I found out about a Facebook group called "Memories of Woodridge". One of the members just posted this on my blog:
Thanks Louis for providing this great article from yesteryear! Having known or known of the people mentioned in the article made the story even more special. My parents, Bernice and Gil Cohen, from neighboring Mountaindale, became members of the Associated Insurance Coop in 1959. Having purchased a candy store next door to the Mountaindale school from the Blums, my parents continued to be members for almost the next 40 years! A note of interest, my mothers’ maternal uncle, Isreal Pressman, was very much involved in the Workmen’s Circle in Brooklyn, NY. A prolific writer of Jewish letters, he won the contest prize of having his autobiography of coming to the New World printed in Yiddish in the late 1940′s. “Die Drukh Gegangener Veg” – “Travelled Roads” – proudly sits on the shelves of the YIVO offices in NYC and on my to this very day! _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
