This is a stupid sentence. ---------- I have been rereading (actually, listening to) Gould's Mismeasure of Man, and I was serious when I posted on lbo-talk not too long ago that the adjective "stupid" should never be applied to persons, only to ideas. (For years I have occasionally groused at Bush being called stupid.) And the sentence I quoted was & is a stupid sentence. And I have, incidentally, intermittently for 10 or 15 years complained often of the historical distortion contained in "McCarthyism." Anyone who takes history seriously should think about that. It's part of the almost knee--jerk and unconscious efforts of liberals to conceal the really nasty record of the DP. Calling things by their proper names is not a trivial pursuit. The Truman-Eisenhour Era of the Red-Hunt. I know it's hopeless, but I'm not, ever, going to let people be comfortable about their mindless echo of the phrase, McCarty Era.
