The data for income is easier to obtain, and some confuse income and wealth.

Joshuakennon.com gives the following limits for wealth:
1 out of 25 households have $1 million or more
1 out of every 39,015 households have $100 million or more
1 out of every 314,700 households have $1 billion or more

I guess that puts the upper 1% to start somewhere between 6 and 9 million.
