What does it mean when the headstone of a British or Imperial soldier omits any religious symbol?
Here's an example of what I mean, between a Christian and a Jew in the Gaza War Cemetery: https://www.flickr.com/photos/joegaza/13631600594 I saw enough of them to make me curious. Some kind of secular humanism or freethought? -- "Hige sceal þe heardra, heorte þe cenre, mod sceal þe mare, þe ure mægen lytlað."
