I think Michael Perelman is right that this discussion has run its course.
But by way of conciliation, a couple of comments to you and to Carrol Cox.

 - In the above, I certainly was not making excuses for the Saudi elites.
They are sociopaths really and truly (and I don't care if "sociopath" is
not a clinically accepted concept). Just talk to some immigrant workers who
have lived in that country if you don't believe me. I think I chose the
wrong part to quote in replying to the last email which may have led to a
misunderstanding there.

 - to Carrol's complaint that I am just calling names, that is not my
intention. For the most part, I find myself in violent agreement with
Carrol and other PEN-Lers on the politics of most issues. But it seems that
I cannot agree with Carrol on any ideological premises. It is puzzling, but
I think that is something to just acknowledge and accept.
