To be fair, sometimes he does have a point (e.g. on many PEN-L
conversations on Libya, Syria etc).

I think it is helpful to make a distinction between analysis and advocacy.
Analysis of events in distant places where our personal stakes may be very
remote is still useful and indeed essential, but taking sides in distant
conflicts is another matter.
