These people have checked out of US political reality. *Barbara Lee* doesn’t oppose US aid to Israel. Is Barbara Lee a warmonger? Making US aid to Israel the litmus test of "bad" is a position of people who don’t believe in political engagement in the real world. Saying that Bernie is bad on Israel-Palestine because he doesn’t oppose US aid to Israel is like saying that he’s bad on financial reform because he isn’t calling for sending all Wall Street bankers to re-education camps. It’s off the playing field of the political world that 99% of politically-active progressive Americans are living in: the world of trade unionists, environmentalists, women’s rights activists, and civil rights groups. It’s like saying: “I don’t care what happens in Washington and I refuse to take any responsibility for it.” At Just Foreign Policy, we struggled with *very* limited success to get Congressional Democrats to come out for ending the Gaza blockade, which is keeping 1.8 million Palestinians in “the world’s largest open air prison.” Keith Ellison [1] (who has endorsed Bernie, by the way [2]), Barbara Lee [3], Danny Davis [4]. That’s the sum total of Congressional Democrats that we were able to get to call for ending the Gaza blockade. But now, there it is on Bernie’s website: *“The Israelis must end the blockade of Gaza, and cease developing settlements on Palestinian land.”* [5] If we’re ever going to make any meaningful contribution in the United States to ending the Israel-Palestine conflict, we have to build an army of people who 1) care what happens to the Palestinians and 2) believe in realistic political engagement in the United States. *Now, thanks to Sanders' stand, we have a golden opportunity to build our army of people who care about Palestinians and believe in dealing with the real world.* There's a huge army supporting Bernie Sanders.
