A little while ago a conversation re the NHS struck up & health services in the uK. I mentioned then a new book - by an Alison. But I got the wrong Alison. It is: Allyson M. Pollock (who credits the other A in her intro - Alison McFarlane) - & the title is: "NHS plc"; Verso; Lodnon 2004; isbn:1-84467-011-2.
It is extremely well written, & a very un-emotive but extremely factual walk through the Tory & New 'Labour' destruction of the NHS. It neglects the early 'opening' to privatisation of the NHS (I recall Mrs Barbara Castle having a hand in this). But that is a minor cavil. Excellent book... For the USA-ers, an interesting aspect is the number of health care companies that have & are making a killing in the NHS (Pun intended). Cheers, Hari
