Gary Webb and the CIA
Re "Gary Webb, prize-winning and controversial journalist," Dec. 14: The Bee's article on reporter Gary Webb failed to point out that many of Webb's reports of the CIA dumping crack cocaine in the Los Angeles ghetto were found to be true by the CIA's solicitor general, regardless of shameful, fearful hand-wringing by the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, The Bee and the San Jose Mercury News. For many years an admission of those reports' veracity has appeared on the CIA's Web site: cia.gov/cia/reports/cocaine.
