Ex Cathedra, properly used, refers to a pronouncement from an authority
who has some sort of authority to impose the judgment on others. It is
not properly applied to statements which have no force other than the
willing response of others.

I would give such a response to a student, for example, only if it did
_not_ affect his/her grade.

I have no power to enforce my pronouncements on anyone on this list or
elsewhere. Nor are they even intended to be persuasive but merely to
propose a position for consideration. They are whatever the reader
chooses to make of them.
