I follow you about the oil companies being in favor of OPEC and its aspirations on price - moderately high and stable. But I don't see why you say the oil companies were against privatizing Iraqi oil (of course they would prefer to take ownership AFTER public money has handled security and rehabilitation). The oil companies have been spreading the word about how the Iraqi fields must catch up on decades of improvement and how this can only be done through a massive infusion of private money and know-how.
