> If Eisenhower knew and chose to conceal it from the country, he was a
liar, period. <

speaking of lying: Rumsfeld implied that NEWSWEEK indirectly killed
people by engaging in shoddy journalism (i.e., not toeing the line
completely, reporting on the Koran desecration). Well he -- and his
alleged boss -- LIED and killed many more.

[I posted the following -- concerning the furor over Newsweek -- on another list. I usually don't cross-post, but the original was so marred by typos I figured one more time, corrected, wouldn't hurt.]

It's the peripheral players in the Guantanamo Bay saga who wind up
prostrating themselves in apology for causing harm -- not the USG, which
conceived and operates this Geneva-light, heavy-duty Q&A facility in total
secrecy and never has to offer the least word of accountability, explanation
or reassurance about what the hell's going on at Gitmo.

Bush & Co. are such masters at removing themselves from the scene of the
crime and placing blame elsewhere, it's surprising they haven't said that
any human rights abuses at Gitmo are the responsibility of the Cuban
government, since the detention center is on Cuban soil.
