Saddam Hussein Trial Tabled
Baghdad, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) The 10th hearing of the trial against
Iraqi ex President Saddam Hussein and seven aides has been postponed
until Feb 13.
The court sessioned Thursday in absentia of the accused and their
attorneys because they had rejected the hostile environment that
prevails with Kurdish Judge Rauf Rashid Abdel Rahman.
The ex-Chief of Secret Services Barzan al Tikriti (stepson of the
toppled president) was evicted at the 8th hearing and the accused called
for Rahman´s resignation.
Due to the rejection by the defendants and the defense, the judges and
the public prosecutors decided Wednesday on a closed-door meeting to
change the defense team, according to a source close to the trial.
The defendants are charged with crimes against humanity, specifically
the death of 148 Shiite Muslims in 1982 in Dujail, north of Baghdad.
