Sounds like an interesting book to review for the zine (if anyone wants to, let me know), but I wouldn't be a good judge of the main part of the book, for I've never worked for Toyota. I'll look up an article by the same author on the same topic that appeared in Multinational Monitor in 2000.

Mehri, Darius. 2005. Notes From Toyota-Land: An American Engineer in Japan (Ithica: Cornell University/ILR Press). Has anyone else read this book? I asked a very bright Japanese student, who says that it seems accurate. Yoshie? It does cover the seamier side of the low wage industrial economy -- shocking since I expected more from Toyota. -- Michael Perelman Economics Department California State University Chico, CA 95929 Tel. 530-898-5321 E-Mail michael at ecst.csuchico.edu
