Avenue is a favorite with tourists.

70+- years ago, the fine folks of Monterey county would have most likely
strung John Steinbeck up.

Currently, Santa Cruz want's to keep itself "Weird", aptly promoted by
the self-same
elements that are eager to chase every vestige of  "weird" &
"counter-culture" away.

...and the laughs keep on coming.
