I am reasonably comfortable in retirement -- but mostly because of the salary my wife is currently earning. The state of Illinois is currently engaged in a steady chipping away of what were (and mostly still are) quite good medical benefits for retirees. Once those benefits are gone, as they will be, retired university professors in Illinois will find their condition increasingly desperate. Carrol
