It is estimated that Vietnam's export turnover will reach US $3.2 billion in
May, increasing the country's total export value to US $15 billion in the
past five months, said the Ministry of Trade.

The five-month figure represents a rise of 24.3% over the same period last
year, the ministry noted.

During the five month period, the export value of seafood exceeded the US $1
billion mark. However, this hard currency earner still remains behind
textiles and garments, with US $2.1 billion, and footwear, US $1.36 billion.

In the farm produce category, close to 2 million tonnes of rice were shipped
abroad in the five-month span, grossing US $600 million, which reflected a
drop of 3-4% in value from the corresponding period last year.

Meanwhile, coffee raked in US $507 million from 446,000 exported tonnes, an
18% decline in volume compared with the same period last year.

Exports of bicycles and spare parts continue to fall in the past five
months, to US $74 million, due to impact of an anti-dumping lawsuit in the
EU.

Meanwhile exports of other manufactured products remained stable, for
example wooden furniture with US $803 million, and electronics and computer
parts with US $636 million. (VNA)
