I accidentally sent this to Michael Perlman by mistake.
Sorry Michael.

It's OK. I'm not big on conspiricy 'theories'. I just think the timing
of the 9/11 attack was almost perfect, and the Bush administration
played it like a Stradivarius. Jim McDermott's statement in Farenheit
911 exemplifies it... (paraphrase)"They raise the terror alert level,
then they lower it... then raise it again. IT's 'crazy making', it makes
people crazy".

When people are under pressure like that, they don't tend to make
correctly formed, rational decisions.
[Hermann Goebbels knew that...)

Using Gary Webb as an example, I sincerely doubt that you'd ever find a
CIA operative ON PAYROLL who has crack cocaine in their desk, but they
know ALL the 'players'. The Bush administration knew all the AQ
players... and that analogy needs to be extended to the big conspiricy
question, the turning point that made 9/11 an eventuality: "What
'turned' Osama bin-Laden?"

I don't buy the "US troops in the holy land" story. UBL was (is) a
mercenary for the US, and knows how the 'bread is buttered'. I think
it's much more likely that UBL and AQ Khan had some back room deal which
was nixed by ...higher ups... to use a dirty bomb on Saudi Arabia which
would have pleased the neocons immensely insofar as their grudge against
OPEC for their ostensibly shaky (or geo-politically directed) control of
oil pricing is concerned, and would have pleased UBL as well. His hate
for the Saudi government is well known, and it involves more than Mecca
and US troops.
