So, I think the blogger got it wrong.  Ken Lay was clever, courted environmentalists for their greenwash, and, it appeared and appears to me that he was successful in leaving few footprints.

My own impression is that Ken Lay is guilty of lying, accounting fraud etc. But I also see him as exceedingly clueless and incompetent. He simply wasn't rational enough to be truly criminal. The guy illegally used bank loans to buy Enron stock on margin. Just how stupider can you get? Even while he was assuring his employees that Enron was in great shape, it 
appears plausible that he believed it himself. Enron's problem according to him was 'just a run on the bank'. 'The only thing we have to fear is fear itself' etc.

How ridiculous is an economic system that puts such an obvious imbecile in a position where he could cause so much damage? (Or does anyone really believe that there aren't more Ken Lays among CEOs and Enron was an exception?)
