The wife of a staff sergeant with Kilo Company, the Marine Unit
charged with killing civilians at Haditha, tells Newsweek magazine
that the unit was a hotbed of drug abuse, alcoholism and violence.
“There were problems in Kilo company with drugs, alcohol, hazing
[violent initiation games], you name it,” she said. “I think it’s more
than possible that these guys were totally tweaked out on speed or
something when they shot those civilians in Haditha.”

MILITARY DOPE
http://fatchance.org/travus/comment.htm
The story has been out there, just outside the media campfire light,
lurking and scarcely seen except in anecdotal accounts of weirdness at
war. The Navy fighter bomber that bombed a wedding party in Afghanistan
had been in the air for nearly half a day, flying from their ship in the
eastern gulf of Arabia. Testimony at the inquiry suggested that the
pilot and his weapons officer had been taking speed for several hours
and were in that semi hallucinatory state familiar to long haul truckers
on cross tops.
The pilots who deliver planes across the Atlantic reportedly use
amphetamine routinely on the long flights, and continued rumors claim
that the night fighting tactics of our ground troops are enhanced by
government issued pep pills. This may contribute to the large number of
returning troops seeking psychiatric for "post traumatic stress
syndrome" at the veteran’s medical facilities. The treatment for most of
these returnees leans heavily on anti- depressant drugs, and it now
turns out that troops in the field are being given those same happy
pills to alleviate wide spread depression. When California Senator
Barbara Boxer referred to this as a problem military analysts denied
both the rate of returnee treatment and sending soldiers on meds into
battle . Boxer provided Army figures showing thirty five percent of
returning forcs under treatment and a letter admitting that medicated
troops were sometimes sent back to Baghdad for another tour.
I would like to know if the five men in the squad accused of rape and
murder in an Iraqi village had been taking any drugs. The anecdotal
evidence here in the U.S. is mounting that the anti-depressant evolution
has its dark side. In upstate New York a woman shows up at a grade
school with four guns and holds a classroom hostage for hours. She had
just stopped her medication three days before. Aggressive outbursts and
other inappropriate social behavior are common, particularly among those
in withdrawal from their chemical bliss. This emerging social problem at
home may be a terrible danger on the field of battle.
In the midst of this distressing trend comes Ann Coulter, one time
columnist for the conservative "National Review* " and poster girl for
all those bulimic blonde beltway babes who seem to populate the nations
capitol and media. Ann is a favorite spokeschick for conservative
extremism, appearing on talking head TV to blame "liberals" in general
foreverything, and Bill Clinton for the particulars. ("Bush may have
lied us into war, but how about horny Bill? Talk about lying!")
Confirmation of all this is scarce, but with the recent rash of
insane crimes being alleged against our troopers, it is certainly time
to ask the questions .
This war is shameful enough without adding killers on government
dope to the disaster.
