2.5% of yearly earnings as tithe yearly from every good muslim to charity as required by the koran. There are donation boxes everywhere. I saw a picture of one recently in the news. They are well-maintained and prominently displayed on streetcorners throughout the muslim world (not just hezbollah's domain) Also note that Syrian society has absorbed 300,000 refugees from Lebanon with no refugee "camps", no request for financial help from international organization, no nothing. Just the requirement in the koran to help fellow muslims. They do it because the extended community in the muslim world works as well as the western world's doesn't. People reduce their living standard voluntarily to help. I've spent too much typing time through the years going over what I perceive as a bogus and dishonest form of social cooperation practiced in western industrialized society. Compare what happened to the refugees from hurricane Katrina to the Lebanese DP's absorbtion into Syrian society. The Syrians are showing everyone how it's done. Americans will probably hate Syria for that too...
