I was about to drop out of graduate school, disgusted with the nonsense. John
Robinson came to Berkeley. Dale Jorgensen, the most obnoxious teacher I had
ever
encountered, rose to ask Robinson an impertinent question. She told him, "Sit
down
young man. I am taking questions from the faculty now."

This performance greatly encouraged most of the students. I asked her if I
could
talk to her. She was saying at Stanford. My former wife and I and a former
roommate
went down to Stanford and drank beer with her for a couple hours. It was
during her
Maoist days.

That afternoon renewed my enthusiasm for my dissertation. What a lady!
