I've written quite a bit on the problems of "productivity," in fact. But, as with hippies & 9/11 nuts, I've done the research!
. Unh... that 'research' and a buck sixty five will get you a cup of joe at the finest coffee shop in Santa Cruz, where a college student, paid minimum wage, will be Sooooo glad to serve you, and will be just as productive as necessary to keep the job..
Productivity is not 'problems' to be solved, although the people who continually seek to define it have been known to commit genocide it's name and are *definitely* a problem. Perhaps you might want to visit what is left of Native American land up in Northern California (or the flooded lands that used to be reservations upstate New York), ripped off by the Europeans settlers in the name of so-called 'productivity'... all the way into the late 20th century and still occuring as we speak. You might want to note that much of the decimation and termination of Native American lifeways, land and culture was attributed to the white-defined claim of unproductivity. Lazy, shiftless indians.... The Black Hills, parcelled and destroyed by gold fever. Nevermind that it was a place of worship for many Native American groups. They ain't tilling the land, they ain't doing anything WITH it! ...as if anything *needed* to be done WITH it, y'know... In reality, we whites did stuff TO IT, as in rape, in the name of 'productivity'. It was rationalized ethnocide on the native culture, disguised a benevolent, paternal, assimilation... and apparently, Doug, that would be OK with you, if you had lived in the 19th century, with your 19th century concept of "productive", which I believe you mean as societally motivated to conform to some gerrymandered work-ethic, due to your repeated reference to... 'hippie'. But enough about that insignificant stuff. The socio-psychology of ethnocide and genocide, and how seemingly intelligent, caring people buy into it without even noticing. What I really want to type about is the productivity inherent in... shall we call it: 'creative slacking'? Keep in mind that the minds who created the Eniacs, the IBM 360s et al were NOT 'slacking', and their motivations were highlty suspect. The lone amateur radio operator who wrote the Commodore 128 software that could run a complex Ham radio repeater/phone patch/packet radio/crossbanding control system (with 128 K, not M of memory), were most assuredy 'creatively slacking' a great deal of the time. See: http://snipurl.com/veb1 [IMG] So... What kind of research did you do in regard to 'productivity'? Was it productive? Lucrative (as in 'filthy lucre')...and how do you like your coffee?
