I found this discussion very interesting. The problem is that no configuration of forces seems ready to provide a positive solution -- even a stopgap remedy. Are people to throw their hats and with the Christian fundamentalists and the Bushies, who would like to be able to undercut China in Sudan? During the Soviet Union's existence, there probably would have been an alternative of some sort on the table. As it stands, Sudan seems to be too dangerous for most "well-meaning" NGOs and the world seems to be left with the choice of supporting the US or Sudan.
