Anyway, there's nothing wrong with farces (especially ones that aren't offensive, like this one). They're better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, if nothing else. I don't think anyone should expect _any_ film to be as good as Bergman's "Seventh Seal." If that's the standard you want films to live up to, you might as well stop going to movies.
Actually, I have pretty much stopped going to American feature films, including "edgy" independent products like "Little Miss Sunshine". If there's a good documentary or a Ousmane Sembene film from netflix that I haven't seen, or a new Turkish or Argentine film I can see at a press screening, why waste my time? As I pointed out, I feel some peer pressure from NYFCO to see some of these American films before our awards meeting in December. I hope my next foray into American films is not as dismal as "Little Miss Sunshine".
