Playing the patriot game

"In a Sports Illustrated survey of 76 US Tour players published in
March, 88% said they supported the American invasion of Iraq, and 91%
supported Bush's controversial nomination of Samuel Alito to the US
Supreme Court . a judge who was welcomed by Republican and
fundamentalist Christian groups as the court's possible swing vote in
one day outlawing abortion.
This Republican tilt on tour has been documented since at least the
Ronald Reagan administration and is so widely accepted as fact that in
the presidential election year of 1996, Golf Digest asked me to do a
story on tour politics and specifically hunt for any golfer who would
actually admit to supporting Clinton, a Democrat (in 1993, some
Republicans on the American Ryder Cup team threatened to boycott a
visit to the White House to protest against a Clinton tax plan that
raised taxes on the rich).

working class has long played golf, in fact, most of the original pga
was comprised of such folks, many of whom had learned to play the game
gowing up, they caddied at elite clubs for those with silver and gold
spoons (the golf club, later called a 3 wood, now a 3 metal, not the
eating utensil) up their asses, part of the 'employment' - they
generally worked for quite meagre tips from their 'social betters' -
was being allowed use of the practice range and even the course
sometimes, later as professional golfers they were often prohibited
from playing these same clubs...

in any event, below are comments from politically conservative person
that i play golf with... mh

Yawn. I guess there was little news in the UK this week. No Hugh Grant
candid photos and no Kate Blanchett cocaine relapses...

It is telling though that a study of university faculty might show
similar numbers in the opposite direction and quotes attribute the
disparity to liberal intelligence vs conservative ignorance etc.

Maybe this just proves that conservatives are better golfers??

I swear I read in my history books that when an ethnic minority group
organized a boycott they were standing up for something, expressing
their rights, etc yet when a group of conservatives boycott it is
reported as an insidious plot to suppress free speech rights of the
Dixie Twits.

To be honest the story has so many Michael Moore moments in it that it
actually comes off as quite intolerant in itself. I'll call Rove and
report this guy.

I can't imagine a similar study on the political leanings of the WNBA...
