In thinking about the North Korean threat it is also worth noting that even according to the US CIA, the South has outspent the North on military spending each and every year since 1976. At present the North spends around $1.7 billion a year and the South over $14 billion dollars (and this does not count US spending related to the South) on their respective militaries.
